Sponsored by North Hertfordshire Archaeological Society, Letchworth Museum and Art Gallery are hosting an exhibition of finds from the Deserted Medieval Village (DMV) of Caldecote. The free exhibition opens on Saturday 14th January and will be displayed until Saturday 10th March.
The DMV was excavated by Professor Guy Beresford in the 1970s when the Caldecote earthworks came under threat of erosion from ploughing. The site has been hailed as particularly important for its evidence on the development of medieval peasant structures. The results were finally published in 2009 by the Society of Medieval Archaeology in ‘Caldecote: The Development and Desertion of a Hertfordshire Village‘.
Please see the Letchworth Museum website for opening times and directions.
