Following last week’s announcement about the excavation taking part in Bures St Mary at the end of June as part of the HLF Funded Managing a Masterpiece project, the application form and document of applicant information are now available to download from the ACA website.
The excavations on the common in Bures will focus on finding and excavating the site of the medieval and later town tip. This could be a rich source of finds from the town’s past which will reveal much about life, likes, trade and standards of living in Bures hundreds of years ago. It will also provide a chance to find out more about a piece of land in the centre of the town which was recently acquired by the townspeople as an amenity for the community now and in the future.
The excavations will take place over 5 days between 25th – 29th June 2012 from 9.30am – 4.30 pm. There will be one late day, on Wednesday 27th, when those not able to dig during the day will be welcome to take part. People of all ages, with or without previous experience, are welcome to apply to take part, for any or all of the digging days – an enthusiasm for finding out more about the past is the only requirement!
We have 30 places available for volunteers on each day, please make sure to apply as soon as possible to guarantee a place.
