Official Opening of Long Melford’s Heritage Centre

Heritage Centre ExhibitionDr Carenza Lewis, Director of Access Cambridge Archaeology (ACA), will be officially opening the Long Melford Heritage Centre this Sunday afternoon, 24th June, from 12 noon to 2pm.

The centre is the brainchild of local historians, Rob Simpson and John Nunn, who raised money for the Heritage Centre’s displays and are championing the unique history of Long Melford in a new history map of the village which can be viewed here. Exhibits of artefacts and photographs from bygone Long Melford have been on display in the Heritage Centre since last month following the start of Michael Wood’s  new BBC series ‘The Great British Story – A People’s History’, which features a community excavation run by ACA in Long Melford last July. You can catch up with all of the episodes on BBC iPlayer here.

Entrance to the Heritage Centre is free, and it is based at Long Melford Memorial Hall, opposite the Bull Hotel. The location can be viewed on the map here. If you have any historic finds, old photographs, or would like to become a volunteer steward, the Heritage Centre would be pleased to hear from you on 01787 378084.
