Visit our dig in Saffron Walden 22-26th July 2013

If you are in or around Saffron Walden in north Essex at the end of July, you will be very welcome to visit the excavations we are running there for a week in collaboration with Saffron Walden Museum, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund as part of their All Our Stories programme.  With secondary school pupils from two local schools, we will be aiming to find out whether the medieval castle’s outer bailey ditch really did run across the top of the common, as has long been suspected but never proved.   Not only that, but we’ll also be able to find out a lot more about the different ways this lovely open space in the middle of the town has been used over hundreds – or even thousands – of years.  There’s more about the forthcoming dig at http://www.uttlesford.gov.uk/article/2166/HISTORY—WE-DIG-IT
