Follow the Saffron Walden Dig on the Common

You can read about Saffron Walden Museum’s Heritage Lottery Funded ‘Dig on the Common’ on the Uttlesford District Council website here and follow their progress during the five-day dig on their blog here.

The trenches are under the direction of Access Cambridge Archaeology as part of Cambridge Community Heritage and involves sixth-form students from Saffron Walden County High School and Newport Free Grammar School.

Visitors are welcome to visit the dig on the common during excavation hours (9:30am-3:30pm) from Monday 22nd to Friday 26th July. There will be a daily update on site at 3:30pm.

Saffron Walden Museum is also open from 10am to 5pm on weekdays during the summer and boasts a wide-ranging collection from local archaeology to costumes and textiles to local history to animals and plants.
