FEAG Talk on Bedford Castle

Thursday 12th September at Cottenham Village College, 7.30 pmEveryone welcome!

Bedford Castle by Jeremy Oetgen
What do we know of Bedford’s ‘lost’ motte and bailey castle, which was all but levelled after an infamous siege in 1224?  This talk will focus on archaeological investigations carried out in the 1970s and in the 2000s, especially excavations in advance of the major Castle Quay development.

Jeremy Oetgen has been a professional archaeologist for over 30 years. He is now with Albion Archaeology, based in Bedford, and has been the project manager responsible for Albion’s recent excavations at the castle site. He is co-author of the full report on these excavations, which is due out in the near future
